The real "Independent" woman
I’m talking about the girl that works as a cashier at your biggest local supermarket, or the lady who works at your favourite fashion retailer? The petrol attendant, the receptionist, the public transportation driver? Cleaner? Where is this paradox of a prim-and-proper woman with a 5-figure salary, living in a chic building with a car and style to match? Where does it leave that girl?
Is it to be assumed that just because she works where she does, she is not independent? She probably never comes to you for money, or lives out her life in self-pitty. She doesn’t place her problems on anyone else’s shoulders and is more often a lender, helping out where she can. People trust her because she is reliable, and has proven to be more than capable of carrying herself.
Is it to be said that she just hasn’t ‘made it’ because she doesnt wear a luxury ‘eau de parfum’, or own that one popular luxury bag, we all know is a staple for ‘girls who have made it’? Yet agian, I bet you that she is more certain of where she sees herself within the next 3 years and how she intends to get there, and plan-b fails, if that fails, even plan-c.
Though our starting points are not the same, and the playing fields are not leveled, we are surrounded by independence every day. Women who possess basic definitions of what makes a woman self-sufficient or independent. They just don’t look like the catalogue -ready image we have bought into.
Continuing to encourage this paradox and narrative only hurts us women. We keep allowing a face to be put to titles we already deserve, and standards we already possess. We keep robbing ourselves of the pride of owning what we have accomplished and who we are. That stops today. Indepndant woman, she is all around, more common than we like to admit. That babe is a win for us.
From us here at Untamed Attraction – Happy week ahead independent babe, we see you!
